it was 5:40 am when I heard you cry "Mommy"
I woke up, walked in, picked you up and we
curled up close in the big rocking chair
(now in the third trimester there's less room for us there)
you found a good spot and we rocked, skin to skin
with baby inside me kicking us from within
and when it looked like you were sound asleep
I carried you back to your crib without making a peep
but you opened your eyes just the tiniest bit
and said "chair. chair.", soft but insistent
you were back in bed by 6:30, before 7 I was at the gym
it was a perfect way for our day to begin
