The plum tree that guards the entrance to our building has put on its dress whites and put me in the mood for a wedding.
The tree makes me think all at once of brides, mothers, and guests:
dressed in impractically beautiful clothes,
waiving delicate embroidered cotton handkerchiefs, and
throwing tiny petal teardrops down like rice (or birdseed, or bubbles)
on us
as we play
in the square of warm Spring sunlight below.

I haven't gotten on here in a while, and look! A poem! Lovely, lovely. Is your plum tree actually putting out white flowers now, totally oblivious to the snowmaggedon that is stomping over the rest of the states? California weather is pretty magnificent.
Speaking of poems, and in the spirit of sharing good ones, I got this one book of poetry recently (called Good Poems, which fills you with confidence for this book) that has some really great poetry in it, right up my alley. This is one of the love poems in there that I think you will like, very simple but sweet:
The Orange, by Wendy Cope
At lunchtime I bought a huge orange -
The size of it made us all laugh.
I peeled it and shared it with Robert and Dave -
They got quarters and I got a half.
And that orange, it made me so happy,
As ordinary things often do
Just lately. The shopping. A walk in the park.
This is peace and contentment. It's new.
The rest of the day was quite easy.
I did all the jobs on my list
and enjoyed them and had some time over.
I love you. I'm glad I exist.
Bridget, that's a completely wonderful poem! I love it! You're so good at judging and sharing poetry.
Yes, California weather is unreal. It's gorgeous, sunny, blue skies, shorts temperatures every day. I hate to tell anyone because it will make all you poor snowy, sleety sweeties hate us.
lol That does sound perfect, but no worries! It is actually a pretty calm winter in Galveston, mostly in the 50s these days, so I can't rustle up much hate for you guys. Poor Fort Worth people, though... (what am I saying? They got a week off of school! Luckies!)
